Blog Post 2: An-My Le: Small Wars

In her series, Small Wars, Vietnamese born photographer An-My Le communicates the lasting effect of the Vietnam War have on those who survived it. As a refugee An-My Le has her own recollection of the war in Vietnam but is also familiar with accounts of the war that we hear from television, movies, and history textbooks. She is interested in the relationship between the individual and collective reflections of this war and how those affect how we remember and possibly glorify the war after the fact. In this series she works with various war re-enactment groups in America to set up scenes of the Vietnam- American war on an American landscape as a backdrop.
